Discussion:
I wanna try a Vorpal Blade ascension

So I've been playing monks mostly, and I just had a series of
setbacks. Now I want to try something different in an attempt to get
my game together. Namely, I want to ascend using Vorpal Blade as my
main weapon. In SLASH'EM, because I like it. I've already ascended a
Valk, so I want to try Samurai this time. They get great starting
equipment, expert in long sword and twoweapon, and start with a katana
and speed. Some questions...
-My general plan is head to Minetown, do altar checks and look for any
deals at shops. Then the Mall, and do the same. Next is Sokoban,
grab whatever it gives me, followed by Mine's End and Gnome King for
the luckstone, throne, and money/loot. Then use any magic mapping
scrolls or object detection potions to find all vaults up to, say,
Soko. Get all the $ and check to see if Ludios is accessible. Buy as
much protection as possible, then start doing sacfests, ideally at
Minetown but at any coaligned altar, to build alignment and luck, then
pray until crowned. Snicker snack. #twoweapon with Vorpal Blade and
the katana and proceed as normal. Problems?
-Does SLASH'EM have any behavior I'm unaware of that might make this
unworkable?
-Will I find too many important headless critters to make this viable?
-Samurai only get basic in sabers. Is it worthwhile to switch to Valk
to get expert in sabers in case I want to use one in Gehennom instead
of the katana, or will that be enough? Ideally beheading will be my
main source of creature disposal.
-How hard is the Sam quest? I looked it over on the wiki and it looks
like I'd need some kind of non-melee way to deal with the nemesis but
other than that not so bad.
-Did I miss anything?

Sam is Law.
Vorpal blade is the neutral crowning gift.

Renewed shall be blade that was broken,

Do a tourist and Vorp is natural. Valk have their hammer.

Yeah, but Slash'Em let's you #twoweapon two
artifacts, right? So put something that gives the
tourist a big "to hit" advantage but lousy damage in
the main hand, and the Vorpal Blade in the off hand.
IIUD, the dominant hand weapon controls some factors
of the off-hand weapon, and I'm obviously hoping
that's the to-hit probability.

Then being "only 'basic'" in long sword shouldn't be
such a drawback. Since Vorp will be doing most of
the killing, you'll have your desired "Vorpal Blade
ascension" if you can do this successfully.

FWIW, and that may very well be "nothing".

I might have played 100 turns of one Slash'Em game
in my lifetime.

So what? For your Vorpal Blade ascension you really need another +3
to hit and +2 damage from being expert?

Inasmuch as (while he is proposing to #twoweapon) he will have no artifact
damage bonuses beyond the relatively tiny effect of decapitations, that
+2 damage is worth more to him than to most ascensions.
