I guess NetHack 3.6.7 was out a few days ago? I don't know why there was
no announcement. I don't know what changes it has; waiting for the update
for my OS.

Oh no. NetHack 3.6.7 has been available since February of this year.

Maybe for some values of "a few days"..
Direct quotation from https://www.nethack.org/v367/release.html :
"The NetHack DevTeam is announcing the release of NetHack 3.6.7 on
February 16, 2023"

There weren't any changes to gameplay, just bugfixes (most notably
fixing CVE-2023-24809, which was what prompted the release afaik).

There was no "official" release announcement posted here or in
rec.games.roguelike.announce. That was an oversight rather than
deliberate. nethack.org had/has an announcement and there was
one posted on reddit in https://reddit.com/r/nethack and possibly
a couple of other places that I don't recall offhand.

There are binaries for Windows. Some linux distributions make them
available for their systems; traditionally Unix users are expected to
build for themselves from source code. These days, that only seems
to leave macOS (formerly OSX). There haven't been binaries provided
for it by nethack.org since 3.6.0. You can build from source, or it is
possible to obtain binaries via 3rd party tools homebrew or macports.

Don't get out of date 3.6.0 from the Apple Store. 3.6.1 and .2 and .3
all had substantial changes. 3.6.4 through .7 primarily address
potential security issues for multi-user systems, although each does
include a handful of fixes for game play problems.

The Releases page on GitHub is always one of the first places to
announce NetHack releases:
https://github.com/NetHack/NetHack/releases

You can also check on the Sourceforge NetHack News page:

Wow, I didn't realize the Sourceforce page was still updated. I thought
there had been a big exodus from there because it was bought by some
shady company that was misusing the platform somehow (injecting adware
into downloads or something like that?).

Sort of funny how many of the "reviews" on there don't seem to be real
(e.g. describe it as productivity or work software, say it "supports up
to 2 processors", or otherwise don't include anything concrete or
accurate about the game).

NH always was (and still is) one of the most important programs in the

This one is fun:
"I always know that I can fall back on this tool to get the job done.
Thanks for a great product!"
