On the Hardfought EU server there's a user post163 who is continuously
"playing" games in various variants, each one dying at Xp:1/0 T:1 with
"Do not pass Go. Do not collect 200 zorkmids." - Is that sort of a new
challenge?

I think they just enjoy dying. Well, there's something for everyone.

Yes, Mister Papanagnou, yesterday I sent to Mister Post163 a scroll during one of his early dying games (the scroll with my message is delivered by the postman who makes his route inside the game). I respectfully asked the player about his play in a number of Nethack varieties. As Mister Nabru comments, for some reason the player seems to enjoy early deaths. Certainly the complexity of Nethack has something to offer to every kind of player. We are really fortunate in being enthusiasts of a game that needs very few computer resources, but that features an incredible degree of sophistication for the player. Those who prefer arcade games of 'point and shoot', or those inclined to computer games with heavy graphics, are a different kind of players. I love Chess and I love Nethack, and I play both SLOWLY, thinking my moves. Of course I often need to save the game, and continue playing it on another day, but that is my style of playing. No rapid games for me, I prefer games in which I have plenty of time for making every decision.

There are roguelike tournaments that have prizes for certain
achievements, wins or deaths. I suspected such an achievement
on a meta-level, since here there's no setup that you have to
play; all these games start and *end* at turn #1. So the joy
would be the "Collector's Joy" (sort of), to perform a single
deadly action in every variant. Not so much the joy of playing.
Bizarre and fancy.

Is the player actually dying in those games, or just escaping the
dungeon immediately?
Continuously dying during the first move doesn't sound very likely, I
would think even suiciding would mostly take more than one turn.

I've collected some screen-shots where you see a bit more information
about the circumstances

http://random.gridbug.de/post163_level_1_deaths.txt

(activate UTF-8 encoding in the browser if you see characters garbled).

They usually die by trying to ride their horse or, when they start with
scroll of genocide, by genociding their race.

Or by zapping a deadly wand at self (or the ray reflected from a wall).

Without the mailer daemon inquiry, one could also assume start scumming.

Ah, that explains it. So, apparently they are mostly knigts.
To avoid this, whenever I happen to have a knight, I wait until my max
hp is at least 20 before trying to mount.
