I found out that spears can stack. That might be a good wish at some
point: 20 +2 spears, do you think the wish would resolve? I'm playing a
valkyrie, who doesn't find that many daggers at the beginning since they
are with the gnomes.

I was just saying because I see all these ascendants attesting, "uh I
had so many wishes I didn't need to use them all." I think rangers
could also benefit from 20 blessed +2 spears. The thing I always
remember about spear is that it outdamages a short sword against large
creatures. These are high damage.

After taking out a rust monster with an elven spear, I've had it as
alternate weapon or wielded ever since to get the skill going. It's
presently at Basic. My hitpoints are high enough that spearwielding is
not a problem at all. It will change if I get mobbed by many monsters.
For that consideration I've got the +1 rustproof Excalibur.

Are you playing Neutral or Lawful? - Above you give the impression that
you're Neutral ([peaceful] gnomes?) but then you've got Excalibur which
seems to indicate Lawful. - Anyway...

A quick explore-mode test gave me just one spear when wishing for a
stack.

Also I anyway wouldn't consider it a good early wish, even less for a
Valkyrie.

For missile weapons I would certainly get those daggers from the gnomes
in the mines. If the gnomes are peaceful towards you then let your pet
do the killing; gnomes are pretty weak, and your pet will also level up
by that process.

Maybe for a Ranger then? Rangers have a penalty to daggers: well
actually, a bonus to spears (and all other missiles besides daggers)
that doesn't cover daggers. I think it's +1 to the number that can be
thrown in one turn.

I took a drive with the Ranger and now I understand the class.
